Low-energy retrofit, done well, can dramatically reduce energy bills, improve comfort and indoor air-quality, resolve moisture problems and improve the appearance and longevity of existing buildings. Retrofitting existing buildings to low-energy standards is much more complicated than most people assume. Retrofits that offer little reduction in energy costs, exacerbate damp problems and worsen indoor air-quality are all too common, if not the norm. I am certified through the AECB Carbonlite retrofit scheme, a training programme that combines cutting-edge research with knowledge from some of the UK’s most experienced retrofitters to provide a course that focuses on moisture-robustness and reliable energy performance. I can work with architects and design teams to develop a comprehensive and robust retrofit strategy for both residential and commercial buildings.
